After school clubs, summer clubs and adventures

There are so many clubs around that can give your child new experiences, fun and adventure, and help them new friends. These include weekend clubs, school holiday clubs, one-off events and web-based clubs. Here you’ll find a few ideas to get you started. Remember to keep checking back here as we’ll add more and more clubs as we learn about them.

Also have a look at our Free and low cost holidays from charities that offer clubs, special events, breaks and after school and holiday workshops. Our sports and arts pages will also give you some fantastic ideas and new things to try.

Scouting and Girl Guides

Some national groups like the Scouts and the Girl Guides are brilliant with kids who have additional needs and will do their very best to include your child in everything they do.

They start at about four years old, but you may need someone to accompany your child and support them during club activities. Guides and Scouts usually meet once a week to play games, learn new skills, and collect activity badges. As they get older they will go camping and on other expeditions.

Special Interest Clubs

There are lots of online and post-based clubs that your child can join to find out more about particular subjects that he or she is interested in, whether that’s Moshi Monsters, Dr Who or Thomas the Tank Engine. The beauty of an online or post-based club is that you can help you child engage at their own speed.

RSPB Wildlife Explorers includes regular magazines and competitions to encourage your child’s interest in nature and exploring. Nature Detectives is run by the Woodland Trust. It includes weekly wildlife challenges, a giant wallchart and stickers, plus activity packs in the post. The RSPB and Woodland Trust both have nature reserves you can visit all over the UK. Check out their websites for accessibility in advance.
