There are some huge and exciting leaps being made in technology to support additional needs. From customized wheelchairs with under-lighting to iPad apps for special needs, the range is enormous.

Most of this kit can be funded with grants, although a lot of it is supplied free of charge from the NHS. If the kit your child needs doesn’t exist, there are lots of firms who will manufacture bespoke equipment for you. See the links below, and the other pages in the kit section, for a huge amount of advice about what’s available and how to get it.

Disabled Living Foundation

The Disabled Living Foundation is a national charity that provides impartial advice, information and training on daily living aids. Their website includes a demonstration centre, forums, a helpline, services for parents and a full and independent suppliers directory. Helpline: 0845 130 9177.

Inventing What You Need

If you can't find the kit your child needs, there is a good chance you can get it built for them. There a several organisations that offer bespoke builds for free including the Cerebra Innovation Centre (CIC). They are is a team of designers producing unique equipment for disabled children. They can help you find suitable products or build you a new product free of charge! Check out the link see examples of the work they have done with new and innovative ideas.
