The Newman Holiday Trust
The Newman Holiday Trust is a voluntary organisation which provides summer holidays for children with special needs. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supported environment and use a care ratio of one helper to one child at all times.
Activities can include theme park and cinema trips, swimming, horse riding, bouncy castles, organised visits from the fire brigade and Armed Forces, magic and talent shows, discos and so much more besides. The holidays also allow for quieter, more relaxed moments, perhaps involving sensory play, arts and crafts or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Each holiday is run by volunteers, led by two holiday organisers. Every child has their own volunteer carer, and other “spare” volunteers are around to help out. Every holiday has at least one nurse to give the children whatever medication they may need, to support volunteers in providing for the children’s needs, and to make sure that we are all happy, healthy and active!
