What is The Motability Scheme?
The Motability Scheme lets disabled people and parents of disabled children to get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a new car, wheelchair accessible vehicle, scooter or powered wheelchair. It sounds too good to be true but isn’t! Loads of Sky Badger families as well as Sky Badger staff have used the Motability Scheme and found it to be a real life saver.
The Motability Scheme helps disabled people get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. To be eligible to join the Scheme, you need to receive one of the following mobility allowances and must have at least 12 months' award length of your allowance remaining.
The Motability Scheme is for anyone in receipt of a higher rate mobility allowance to use this funding to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or wheelchair accessible vehicle. The Scheme provides flexible and hassle-free access to a brand-new vehicle of your choice.

How does the Motability scheme work?
The Motability Scheme is really simple. You just exchange all, or part of your mobility allowance to lease the vehicle of your choice. You choose the vehicle you want at a price that works for you, and payments are deducted from your higher rate mobility allowance every four weeks, then paid directly to us by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Their standard lease is over three years, or five years if you are leasing a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and they take care of running costs including insurance for up to three named drivers (this doesn’t have to be you). The scheme also covers servicing, maintenance, breakdown cover and tyre and windscreen repair and replacement. All you need to do is add fuel and go. Amazing isn’t it!
